Chef Jamie Kennedy has been something of a Toronto food scene juggernaut for years now, running Gilead, Gilead Wine Bar, Windows by Jamie Kennedy in Niagara Falls, and pop-up JK Fries. Now, he's expanding his empire even further by becoming executive chef for Duggan's Brewery. The brewery will open in Parkdale in the former spot of Kanji with a nano brewery, retail space, and restaurant/bar.
Canadian Beer News reported last week that Duggan was "in discussion with a local chef," and now Duggan reveals that Kennedy will oversee menu design and kitchen staffing, and that the primary focus will be on fresh and local ingredients (which has long been Kennedy's signature). It's been three years since the closure of the original location of Duggan's in Victoria Street, and Duggan hopes that an official grand opening will take place in October. Visitors can expect plenty of Duggan's trademark #9 IPA and #5 Sorachi Lager beers, as well as a new brew dubbed #46 Parkdale Bomber—a nod to the brewery's new west end digs.
