Montecito, the eagerly-awaited blockbuster restaurant and brainchild of director/producer Ivan Reitman is opening steps away from the TIFF Bell Lightbox. Slated to serve simple, comfortable fare made with locally-sourced ingredients, Reitman's new venture will nevertheless feature a cinematic flair. The decor of the restaurant aims to recreate the Ghostbusters director's home in Montecito: a surround-sound system and flat screens behind a window-like archway will project a looped panoramic film of Reitman's own backyard — a detail quite befitting of a movie-maker.
But the references to cinema don't end there: a Ghostbusters-themed dessert is in the works. According to Jonathan Waxman, Reitman's business partner, the pair have plans for "some kind of exploding marshmallow thing" ( a reference to the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, Ghostbusters's lovable product mascot/city-destroying villain).
No word on whether Hi-C Ecto Cooler will be featured on the cocktail menu. Do leave your suggestions for a Kindergarten Cop-themed entree in the comments.
