Toronto's newest dessert trend has made its way north— as of this spring, Baker and Scone is serving up the traditional teatime snacks in Hillcrest Village. The flaky pastry that is so often the obligatory baked good at coffee shops has the spotlight all to itself with sweet, savoury, and gluten-free options, and even the light-lunch tart has a scone crust. Proprietor Sandra Katsiou is doing just fine with her limited repertoire; patrons are lining up outside for a taste of her scones, daily soups, and kale salads. Sadly, Devonshire clotted cream is not available — true WASPs will have to trek down to Parkdale to the other double-named scone cafe, Kitten & The Bear.
