To celebrate its tenth anniversary, The Drake Hotel has meticulously planned a weeklong art/food/community extravaganza, with proceeds going to a number of local charities. The list of giveaways, parties, and food deals is so extensive, it's as if the Drake has hired the ghost of Honest Ed as a consultant.
From February 14th to 20th, the fêted Drake Burger – regularly priced at $18 – can be grabbed for ten bucks; on the 16th, all to-go cups of Merchant of Green Coffee will go for ten cents; and on February 17th, Monkey Bunch brings the Community Family Pancake Breakfast to benefit the Parkdale Community Food Bank – suggested donation is $10 (are you noticing a theme here?). Also on the 17th, war stories will be traded like jäger shots when the hotel invites all former employees back for the Drake Hotel Alumni Staff Reunion. (Note: If that's you, hit Ivy Knight up on Twitter) On the same night, Knight presents the 86'd Epic Sausage Party; the free event is open to the public, hosted by former Drake bartenders Mike Webster (Bar Isabel) and Chris Campbell (Norm Hardie Winery), features a Cumbrae's sausage buffet and brew dogs from Samuel Adams.
The main event lands on the 20th with The Official Drake Hotel Birthday Party, which promises performance art with pastries and live music from body rockin' headliners, Hooded Fang. And just in case that isn't enough Drake in one post, this Monday's 86'd event anticipates the birthday bash when former Drake staffers from Small Town Food Co., The Huntsman Tavern, Bar Isabel, and more, suit up for the Drake Alumni Cocktail Competition. The event is sponsored by Tito Vodka and open to the public.
