Christina Tosi knows how to make an entrance. On March 4th, the head chef and owner of Momofuku's famed Milk Bar – Toronto boasts the cultish chain's first location outside of New York City – will drop by the annual Canadian Restaurant and Foodservices Association as a featured panelist and host a birthday cake truffle demonstration; but leading up, Tosi will rock the city with a series of events, cake giveaways, and unveil new Milk Bar menu treats that will have locals robotically nodding their heads, shaking their hips, and wagging their tongues.
On March 2nd, a sweet combination of musical chairs and free cake – a Milk Bar tradition called the "cake walk" – will be held every hour on the hour from noon to 3pm. This helpful video runs down what that means. Lucky winners will dance away with a dulce de leche cake, new to the menu and featuring "slowly caramelized sweetened condensed milk, dulce de leche, and milk crumbs." On the 3rd, Milk Bar may incite a riot when they hand out free chocolate malt cake truffles (another new menu item), "bite-sized balls of chocolate cake soaked in malted chocolate milk and coated with malted milk crumbs," to the first 100 customers. Christina Tosi should really come to town more often.
