Grasshopper Hops To The Starting Line

Photo: Eater Toronto

Late last year, it was announced that Grasshopper, a new vegetarian restaurant, would replace the former Mexi-Can Market at 310 College Street. Now for more details: The kitchen and tables are in – a sleek modern feel is immediate, the sign went up a week ago, and owners Roy Qian and Oliver Chen are working with a consultant from George Brown Chef School to build a vegetarian menu "focusing on taste."

The Chinese-born duo highlights a lot of meat-flavoured vegetarian fare: Vegetarian pulled pork served bánh-mì-style will be featured alongside beef-flavoured and "chicken finger" seitan skewers, with an assortment of rice bowls, soba, and salads. The liquor license is pending and the interior still needs some work, but Grasshopper plans to be open in a month.
