Loblaw frontman Dave Nichol has passed away. For a decade he created over 1700 unique products that brought in $1.5 billion in revenue each year.

"As the front man for President's Choice, Nichol was better known to many Canadians, and certainly better loved, than their own prime minister," Canadian Business wrote in a profile of Nichol in 1993.

In a statement released today, Galen Weston Sr. said they "are deeply saddened" and that "Dave's passion for food and his vision helped to transform the way Canadians eat, and he has left a tremendous legacy that endures in the company today." Dave Nichol was 73.
