Taking over the site of Church Street Winery, The 420 Smoke House is coming to Parliament Street and opening in a few weeks. Currently under construction, the backyard barbecue joint is working with pit master Ryan Gatner of When the Pig Came Home.
When the Pig Came Home is known for their sustainably-sourced local and organic products, cooked on natural Canadian hardwood charcoal and Ontario-sourced fruit and nut woods. Gatner has been "hocking" his fare at the Junction and Riverdale farmers markets this summer and catering small parties.
There hasn't been much posted on the inter web about the new 420 Smoke House, but if Gatner's reputation is anything to go by, it's sure to be a delicious and popular addition to the Cabbagetown culinary repertoire.
Look out, Barque! You've got east end competition. (Insert finger snapping West Side Story music here.)
