Opening August 31, Humble Beginnings is a welcome addition to The Junction, and prides itself on being a place of celebration. A melting pot of Toronto's 160 cuisines, this takeaway-eat in-catering shop offers local, sustainable fine fare "from the ground up."
Focusing on food "from the earth, ocean or stream," Humble Beginnings wants to evoke homemade memories in its patrons.
With a seasonal, evolving menu, the shop offers freshly-prepared, comforting items like Caesar salad, personal-sized beef Wellington, smashed potatoes, Nanaimo bars, Chinese custard French toast, wild mushroom soup, jerk turkey and "Out of Africa b'stilla."
Staying true to the local theme, their meat comes from Sanagan's Meat Locker in Kensington Market, ACE Bakery is their bread partner, Oceanwise-designated supplier Domenic's at St. Lawrence Market provides their fish, and Gordon Food Service delivers their dry goods.
The venue is clean, open and a bit sparse. There's enough seating to satisfy the weekday Junction crowd, but may get full quickly come weekend brunch.
