MISSISSAUGA— Toronto's Pearson Airport is getting cooler. Restaurant-wise anyway. The airport is rolling out restaurants in hopes of making YYZ a destination in and of itself. The next two years will bring even more dining options including "a French-Asian bistro from celebrity chef Susur Lee (Lee, Bent), a market-inspired restaurant from Food Network star Lynn Crawford (Ruby Watchco), a global comfort food eatery from television host and cookbook author Roger Mooking, and a pair of delis from restaurateur Zane Caplansky (Caplansky's)." [Toronto Life]
THE ANNEX— Playa Cabana Hacienda is holding a fundraiser for typhoon victims in the Philippines tonight. Owner Dave Sidhu's mom is from the city of Tacloban, where the storm struck, and so the funds raised will go to help rebuild that city. Come out and support this great cause. There shall also be tacos. [Grid]
THE BEACH (VILLAGE)— Whatever they're calling it these days, Queen East's Hogtown Smoke makes it worth the 501 ride across the Don. Especially when they're serving up Pig Out Platters, from $64 to $182 that will feed three to 10 people. "There's pork ribs or beef ribs, brisket, pulled pork, Patron-infused chicken and wings [plus] a choice of three sides (at least) are included with the platters: hearty root beer-baked beans, cornbread muffins, slaw (creamy or vinegar based) or seasoned fries." [BlogTO]
WEST QUEEN WEST— It's the Eater and Curbed Toronto Launch Party tonight at the Drake 86'D with Ivy Knight! Come out, meet the team, indulge your senses and celebrate all things food and housing. There will be complimentary sampling of Samuel Adams, canapes and a cash bar. Event starts at 8pm and is free! [Eaterwire]
